Contest rules VERON SLP contests 2007 PDF Print E-mail
SWL - Short Listening Period - contests
Summary: The SLP's are short listening period contests, taking place 8 times a year. In order to participate to the contest one should listen 3 times one hour in the contest weekend and try to log as much different prefixes and countries as possible. The final score is the sum of the prefixes of each band multiplied by the sum of the heard DXCC-countries logged on each band.
A logged contact is complete when you have noted: Frequency/Band - Date - Time(UTC) - Call of the heard station - Call of the counter station - Report of the heard station including contest extensions.
Only contacts in phone on 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 m bands are allowed for the contest and count all for one point.
One should stay at the same band for at least 10 minutes and a counter station may not return in the log within 5 minutes.
Give SWL-contesting a try an send your log with score calculation to the contest manager Ruud Ivens,  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or to his home address (see pt. 10 below), within a month after the contest weekend.

Ham Operators Connect Plantation to World:
PLYMOUTH - The Whitman Amateur Radio Club conducted a two-day special event at Plimoth Plantation the weekend following Thanksgiving. Twenty-two area amateur radio operators (or HAMs) set up six base stations and portable antennas and exchanged contacts with 216 other amateur radio operators in 32 states, 8 foreign countries and 3 Canadian Provinces, according to club President Paul Burbine (N1VTI). The HAM operators spread the word about Plimoth Plantation over the airways, explaining about the living museum and the amazement of visitors who interact with interpreters trained to explain the realities of early Colonial life, in the language of 17th century without acknowledging life beyond the 1620s.

160m SSB Club Calls Contest - November 2008
107 in the log. I’ve no idea what my score was since I used N1MM’s DX Serial Contest template to do the logging and the miscellaneous field for logging random text did a hopeless job of being able to edit long club names efficiently. The last time I entered this contest, my log was called into [...]

Waterproof PL259 connectors for Ecoflex
I’ve been lucky enough to purchase 100 meters of Ecoflex 15 recently and the solderless connectors are awesome. Available for Aircell 7 (RG213 replacement) and Ecoflex 10 (Westflex replacement) and this giant 15mm diameter stuff, once fitted they are completely waterproof. My experience with all these products started with me laying down a few runs for my [...]

Configuring Postfix to act as a backup MX server
