QsoNet - Virtual Ionosphere For Amateur Radio
CQ100 HF Transceiver

What is QsoNet?

QsoNet uses the internet to receive audio signals from a ham radio transmitting station, then instantly reflects the audio back to all stations listening on that frequency. There is no RF. Everything is done over the internet. The result is a simulated ionosphere for worldwide amateur radio communication. Stations can use either voice or CW modulation.

Online Petition against QRM
IT9RYH/IK1JUO has begun an online petition against QRM on 14195 kHz. Look at www.youtube.com how the QRM disturb radio frequency. In signing this petition you are showing your true feelings regarding the continuing saga which appears almost daily on 14195.

If enough signatures are added, this whole petition will be sent to the relevant Italian PTT showing how disgusted we all are. It's not ham radio, it's not even a comedy - it's a joke.

Please sign in the hope something is done, one day Online Petition against QRM

VR10 - a special Hong Kong prefix
Hong Kong panorama Beginning July 1 2007 to 30 June 2008, VR2 stations can use the special prefix VR10 on voluntary basis to commemorate the reunification with China which occured in 1997.

For example, a licence and/or authority to operate holder an original callsign VR2ABC may use a special callsign VR10ABC between 1st July 2007 and 30th June 2008.

Short stay visiting amateur who is Hong Kong amateur licensee and/or authority to operate holder may also use the special callsign (i.e. his/her home callsign prefixed by "VR10").

Superb preselector for contesting
Contesting is very popular part of amater radio operation. But it’s not only the hardest test for operator but also for the equipment. In the same time are on the band hundreds of sigs. Our receiver must process a various signals from the weakest to the strongest from the stations in our area which are overloading the receiver. This is a hard job for every receiver.

If we got a huge QRM from the neighbour stations it’s a time to built the front-end filter called preselector. Preselector is a special, very selective RX filter circuit. Preselector is passing through only few kHz, all other signals are strongly rejected (at least –70 to –80 dB).

Ham Operators Connect Plantation to World:
PLYMOUTH - The Whitman Amateur Radio Club conducted a two-day special event at Plimoth Plantation the weekend following Thanksgiving. Twenty-two area amateur radio operators (or HAMs) set up six base stations and portable antennas and exchanged contacts with 216 other amateur radio operators in 32 states, 8 foreign countries and 3 Canadian Provinces, according to club President Paul Burbine (N1VTI). The HAM operators spread the word about Plimoth Plantation over the airways, explaining about the living museum and the amazement of visitors who interact with interpreters trained to explain the realities of early Colonial life, in the language of 17th century without acknowledging life beyond the 1620s.

ARISS Celebrates International Education Week
With all the educational opportunities the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station program (ARISS) provides, it's no wonder that the organization has captured the attention of the US Department of Education (DOEd). According to ARRL ARISS Program Manager Rosalie White, K1STO, the DOE has been tracking ARISS's activities for a long time: "The Department of Education invited ARISS to help celebrate the ninth annual International Education Week (IEW) by coordinating three contacts with the International Space Station (ISS) during IEW, November 17-21. How could we say no?" International Education Week is a joint initiative of the US Department of Education and US Department of State.

160m SSB Club Calls Contest - November 2008
107 in the log. I’ve no idea what my score was since I used N1MM’s DX Serial Contest template to do the logging and the miscellaneous field for logging random text did a hopeless job of being able to edit long club names efficiently. The last time I entered this contest, my log was called into [...]

Waterproof PL259 connectors for Ecoflex
I’ve been lucky enough to purchase 100 meters of Ecoflex 15 recently and the solderless connectors are awesome. Available for Aircell 7 (RG213 replacement) and Ecoflex 10 (Westflex replacement) and this giant 15mm diameter stuff, once fitted they are completely waterproof. My experience with all these products started with me laying down a few runs for my [...]
